TechnoServe is a nonprofit organization that develops business solutions to poverty by linking people to information, capital and markets. Their efforts are motivated by the idea that hardworking people can generate income, jobs and wealth for their families and communities. With over four decades of proven results, they continue to believe in the private enterprise to transform lives in needy areas.
TechnoServe works with enterprising people in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses and industries. They help grow strong markets that create income and jobs in poor communities. TechnoServe’s origin traces back to the village of Adidome, Ghana, and they have expanded over the years, but their focus remains on the developing world because that’s where they can make the greatest impact on global poverty. They continue to work in poor communities in 29 countries throughout Africa, Latin America and Asia.
Here is their approach:
As mentioned by TechnoServe, nearly a third of the global population relies on agriculture for a living, and growth in this sector has been shown to be at least twice as effective at reducing poverty as growth in other sectors. The innovation in digital applications continues to accelerate agricultural procedures and improves productivity and growth. In a public-private partnership between TechnoServe and Vodafone, USAID, a mobile product called “Connected Farmer” has been created to help farmers work with agribusinesses and better manage their own crops and finances. Digital solutions as such show promise as they continue to address the constraints of resiliency, scale and market incentives throughout agriculture. Such advancements not only increase business within these developing communities, but they can enhance the quality of life for inhabitants as social and environmental components can be impacted positively as a result of the economic activity.
TecnhoServe continues to create opportunities utilizing natural resources and creative minds to combat poverty on a global level.
