Redbird is a cloud-based processing platform which uses geo-spacial drone technology to streamline the work of construction companies , mines and quarries.
Redbird was hatched in early 2013, shortly after new regulations in France allowed for the operation of drones for commercial use. Each of the original founders already held a private pilots license, so beginning a business that utilized drone technology seemed like a no-brainer.
The company seeks to update the processes used by construction companies, mines, and quarries. For these industries, traditional surveying techniques put a surveyor on ground at the work site, which can often mean putting them into potentially dangerous situations. Redbird uses drones to monitor such work sites from the sky. This allows for easier, faster, cheaper, and safer collection of data. Once collected, the data is uploaded to a cloud-based platform. The data is collected and uploaded to Redbird’s cloud-based platform to be processed automatically. The users can easily collaborate directly on the online platform, anytime and anywhere.
Last December the company announced a collaboration with Caterpillar: “In the coming months, Caterpillar will continue to collaborate with Redbird and our dealer network to create awareness, educate and introduce our customers to the benefits of technologies and innovation in our industry.”
When speaking on the use of new, geo-spacial technology, Redbird states that, “We truly believe that drones will transform the way people work in major industries such as Construction, Mining, Utilities and Transportation. And we have chosen to focus on the next chapter of the commercial drone revolution: data analytics.”
Redbird has already found success in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and expects to enter the U.S. market once FAA regulations loosen the restraints on the use of commercial drones. Currently, Redbird is made up of 30 data scientists, software engineers, developers, civil engineers, topographers, and construction experts. This team is out to change the way large companies interact with their work sites.
